CYBORG SHAMANISM AND THE DESIGN OF TRANSFORMATIVE EXPERIENCES

with Adah Parris

Sunday, May 10th 2020, 09:30 – 18:00, Silent Green, Berlin

About the Masterclass

In this masterclass, Adah Parris invites you to find the edges of knowing and design experiences to cross them.

We live in a time in which connecting the dots and finding the patterns that connect becomes more and more important. As technology becomes a partner in nearly every aspect of life, the question is how do we create experiences for new stories to unfold and new knowledge to emerge.

The masterclass moves from researching the sign posts of cyborg shamanism to the design of immersive experiences using different kinds of media and technologies. In the masterclass, we will work on the questions and cases sourced from the participants.

Based on her experience as a curator of stories, people and patterns, Adah shares her knowledge in how to set up projects and experiences on the intersection between business, art and technology, leveraging the concept of cyborg shamanism as a starting point.

Cyborg shamanism is based on the assumption that humans always use and used technologies to connect to the world – we are and always have been cyborgs. And that these ways of world making and the uses of technology can be leveraged to create transformative experience – the work of shamans across the ages.

More than giving answers, the concept supports individuals and organisations to create powerful questions for the transformation of life, work and ways of world making in the 21st century.

Specifically, the masterclass covers the following aspects:

  • Ways of world making: an introduction to Cyborg Shamanism

  • Research strategies in the curation of people, stories and patterns

  • Researching sample cases with the Cyborg Shamanism A-Z

  • Design principles of immersive narrative experiences

  • Narrative Design in the conception of multi-medial experiences

  • Case work and feedback
